TV Ratings: 'Fringe' Opens Season Down, 'A Gifted Man' Has OK Debut

Fox's cult series delivered 3.5 million total viewers and a 1.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, an improvement from the 1.2 rating Fringe posted for its season finale but down more than 20 percent from its debut in the Fridays at 9 p.m. slot. Its lead-in, Kitchen Nightmares, drew 3.8 million and a 1.6, winning its 8 p.m. time period. Fox placed second on the night behind CBS. Starting a night with a new show is a difficult task, but the series -- also featuring Emmy winner Margo Martindale -- was the top-rated scripted program and ranked as the top-rated program in the older 25-54 demo. CSI: NY (10.7 million, 1.8) and Blue Bloods (11.8 million, 2.0 both dipped 10 percent and 9 percent, respectively, with the latter as the night's most-watched program during primetime. CBS won the night in viewership (10.6 million) and the demo (1.7). The CW's Nikita (1.9 million, 0.6) premiered on its new night and time, seeing a drop from last year's premiere when it aired following The Vampire Diaries.
